Review

This is the cookbook to get if you want to eat all your favorites but without using grains. The author does all the work for you! Easy to understand explanations of why cooking without grain is a more healthy alternative to traditional ingredients. The recipes are easy to understand, organized well, and beautifully photographed.  I was very please with the variety of recipes in this Paleo cookbook.  As previously stated, most of the recipes are of common meals remade to be grain free.  The book has a good variety of breads that I am in the process of trying (to some degree of success!)  Breads are the toughest for me to give up!  The several that I have already tried were beyond delicious.  Do yourself a favor and go for a grain free and healthier lifestyle; let this cookbook be a good start.\

Paleo Home Cooking has everything that you are looking for to help you live a gluten-free lifestyle without giving up flavorful meals.  You will find a wide variety of recipes from appetizers to soups and salads to main dishes to desserts.  Sonia covers it all.  She also has a good section on “The Basics” to get your started.  I own a lot of Paleo cookbooks, yet most of her recipes were very unique.  I especially enjoyed the section she has on nut butters.  She dedicated an entire chapter to making a variety of amazing nut and seed butters right in your own kitchen.  I would purchase this book for that chapter alone.  It is that good.  This is a cookbook you will refer to again and again.

      This is a great cookbook for those making the transition to a Paleo lifestyle.  While the author does offer a 4 week menu plan, this isn’t a diet book.  She just offers recipes of tasty food that follows the Paleo lifestyle and encourages clean, processed-free eating.  I like many things about this cookbook including way it is organized, the mouthwatering photographs of the finished meal, and the meal plans and shopping lists to make your transition to the Paleo lifestyle easier.  Amy also has an extensive section on herbs and spices that I found very enlightening.   I think this is a perfect cookbook for Paleo novices and their families. The recipes are appetizing and aren’t too “out there”, which is great when cooking for kids or non-Paleo eating spouses.  Yet it also has recipes that even the seasoned Paleo cook will find refreshing.  It is a must-have for your cookbook collection!

        Prior to reading Easy Paleo Meals and trying Kelly’s recipes, I anticipated an outlandish diet theory involving periods of pure gluttony followed by lengthy stretches of starvation.  However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover through this cookbook that the Paleo diet  is actually a reasonable, healthy, and easily manageable diet using ingredients that are easy to find, many of which are already in my pantry!  This book provides great structure and is indexed well and it features a wide array of easy-to-follow recipes for every meal. The cookbook features ideas for main dishes, desserts, snacks, beverages, and even dressings and sauces. My favorite recipe was the pie crust mixes that Kelly uses in many of her recipes.  It is versatile as well as delicious.  She also offers several good recipes for sauces and condiments.  Comprehensive and explanatory, I highly suggest buy this book as a great starter to embarking on the Paleo Diet.

          I have followed Diana’s blog Real Healthy Recipes for about a year now, but I only recently became serious about going wheat-free and possibly grain free.  The hardest thing about this (for me) is figuring what to eat to replace my favorite comfort foods.  This book really fills that need.  I devoured the book and marked several recipes to try and the ones that I have tried turned out fantastic and taste great – all without using grains!  The ingredients needed are easy to find and the cooking techniques are not crazy or hard to follow.  I just finished making the Crispy Orange Chicken (p. 108) and I serviced with with Cauliflower Rice (p. 122) and it was hit with my family.  There are so many others that I could mention, but I guess I will just say that if you want to cook “comfort foods” that are grain free then you have to get a copy of this cookbook!  On a side note, these recipes are also dairy, soy, gluten and cane sugar free.

Whether you are cooking for your family or having a fancy dinner party, you will find delicious recipes that will fit the bill for any occasion.  To me this book makes cooking healthy food extremely fun.  Some of the recipes I admit weren’t really my style in cooking; I found that it was good for me to think out of the box!  With help from this cookbook; I’ve been able to create delicious meals for my family and friends.
